Ultraflote's active involvement on API committees, particularly the Committee on Evaporation Loss Measurement, has provided us the opportunity to incorporate the latest environmental technology advances into the Ultraflote Roof.

In fact, our Vice President and Technical Director, Mr. Ronald Kern, has been active on a number of API committees since 1975. These committees have been very active recently conducting tests and developing new, more accurate loss factors and emission formulas for fixed roof and floating roof tanks. These new formulas were published recently as a new document "Evaporative Loss from Floating Roof Tanks" and included in API's Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards as Chapter 19, Section 2 (19.2).

The Ultraflote Roof not only saves money and prevents pollution, but it also makes the tank much safer to operate. Inside a fixed roof tank the liquid evaporates until the space between the fixed roof and the liquid becomes saturated. Once the product in the tank is drawn down, fresh air enters the tank, dilutes the saturated vapors which then become explosive. In the rare instance that a spark ignites these vapors, the reaction would be catastrophic. By trapping all the vapors below the Ultraflote Roof the space above the cover is clean and will not burn.
